The public consultation for the Vance Amory International Airport expansion project took place on November 14th, 2024. In the presence of key stakeholders, the Premier of Nevis, Hon. Mark Brantley, the engineering and architectural companies presented updates on the project and the Social and Environmental Impact Assessment.

The expansion aims to enhance the airport's infrastructure, allowing for larger aircraft operations, which is crucial for boosting tourism and job opportunities on the island. The project includes runway reconstruction and the development of new facilities, such as cargo and general aviation services. The presentation highlighted the importance of community engagement, addressing concerns about noise levels and environmental impacts, and ensuring that the project aligns with local needs and expectations. Stakeholders raised questions about the project's financing, job creation, and the potential impact on nearby properties. The consultation emphasized the need for transparency and ongoing dialogue with the community as the project progresses.

The main objectives of the Vance Amory Airport expansion include accommodating larger aircraft, reconstructing and repaving the runway and taxiways, and enhancing airport facilities. This development aims to improve the airport's infrastructure, support tourism growth, and create job opportunities for the local community. Additionally, it focuses on ensuring safety and environmental considerations during the expansion process.

The expansion of Vance Amory Airport is expected to create numerous job opportunities for residents, particularly in Saint George Parish. The project is viewed as an investment not only in the airport's infrastructure but also in the tourism sector, leading to increased employment, touristic infrastructure, and overall development.

The Environmental Impact Assessment evaluated potential impacts and outlined mitigation measures. This assessment considers various factors, such as noise generation, topography, and the effects on local wildlife. The project aims to ensure that any negative impacts are minimized and that the community's concerns are addressed through ongoing public consultations and feedback mechanisms.
